Origins

Did you know that colored cotton agriculture began around 2700 B.C. and it was common for cotton to grow in a variety of natural colors at that time? Later, when the industrial revolution brought us industrial cotton looms, short-fibered colored cotton was replaced by long-fibered all white cotton that processed better in the industrial looms.

Knowing this, the Brazilian Agriculture and Stock Raising Research Company (EMBRAPA) wanted to grow commercially viable long-fibered colored cotton. By crossing the strains of cotton that already grew with some color with Serido cotton - which has the longest and most resistant fiber in the world – they arrived at the high-quality cotton we have today. Our cotton currently grows in green, off-white, tan and reddish brown. And it all means that our cotton is NOT genetically modified!

On top of that, our cotton is also organically grown! A successful organic farm requires an intensive and innovative management more than just not using pesticides. Beneficial insects are allowed to thrive to keep pests in check and crop rotation helps to maintain fertility and soil microbiology. Weeds are controlled with precision tillage and the good old fashioned hoe. These methods cause no harm to the workers who grow and pick the cotton. The result is the softness and quality that only organic cotton can provide and the peace of mind that comes from knowing your purchases and your clothing have been kind to the planet.

Our cotton is just about as environmentally friendly things can possibly get!
